When you die you will drop all of your weapons and armor where you died. Sure that Necromancer will bring you back to life but who wants to give him 25% of your gold? Not Us!
The reason death runs can be painful is sometimes you find a few respawns on your way back to your bodies. These respawns normally wouldn't be a pain, but they can be very dangerous to a character without armor, weapons or spells.
As a mage, I usually keep an extra spellbook with secondary skills lying around for just such an occasion. However, as for everyone else, just run past. The monsters won't follow for very long and 9 time sout of 10 running past the monsters will be reletively painless.
So rather then killing everything you see on your way back to your corpse, just run past everything and get to your corpse as quickly as possible.
