Really, why? Okay one party member is needed, or one pet.
But any more than that it's over-kill, this game is already too easy.
I'm playing through multiplayer, so can't avoid there being 2 of us, now granted it's not as boring and easy as the first one, and as a combat mage I am actually useful unlike the first time around, but the second we bring pets or anything into the equation it becomes incredibly easy.
What's funny is I read people talking about the game being too easy, while they have 4 people in their party!

Answering the rant..
It is the same logic as in "Okay one party member is needed"(why one, and not 2 or 3) and in " it's not as boring and easy as the first one"
The game is designed for 4 ppl.
So if there are monsters weak to ice, but no nature mage, or a quest, needed a combat mage to be completed, but no such in party.
Then i wouldnt say playing with crippled parties make the game more difficult but more.. nasty.
Besides the game is not easy, mindlessly running into a horde of enemies will get you killed fast. Especially at the beginning.

you need to feed a pet whit specific items. you lose those items and the pet will get a bonus after eating enough to grow up a level.
